A man with a knife, holding a woman against her will, was tasered by Langley RCMP at the downtown Logan Avenue bus loop Saturday afternoon.

The incident took place just before 1 p.m. when police were called about a man acting “erratically” and possibly high on drugs, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

Officers arrived to find the man holding a knife in one hand, and with a woman he refused to release. The woman is believed to be someone he knew.

Police tried to calm the man down, but when he tried to turn the knife on himself, they shot him with the taser.

The man released the woman and fell to his knees.

The woman was unharmed, and the man was taken to hospital for treatment, said Largy.

Police are still investigating the incident. The man involved is a 45-year-old Langley resident.
