The Langley RCMP is warning locals to be aware that scammers are pretending to represent Canadian tax authorities again this April.

With tax deadlines looming, fraudsters are calling, claiming to the officers from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

These scammers tend to make contact with a victim and use threats in a variety of different ways, Largy said.

They will suggest the victim’s account is in arrears, and the debt must be paid immediately or the victim will be arrested. Some will leave voicemails demanding an immediate call back.

Others may suggest there is a refund or benefit to be gained, said Largy.

The calls tend to come from pre-paid cellphones and are not traceable.

The CRA offers more tips on avoiding scams on their website HERE.

If you do have a debt with the CRA and can’t pay in full, take action right away. For more information, go HERE.
