Business a chance to give back

Sports, and specifically soccer, was a big part of Allen Hewitt's life.

"The only reason I am at school is because of athletics," he admitted.

"That's how it started: I only went to Douglas College because I heard they were having soccer tryouts."

After completing two years at Douglas College, where he also played soccer, Hewitt transferred over to Kwantlen Polytechnic University and the 26-year-old is in the final year of his bachelor of business administration degree.

As part of his course requirements, Hewitt needed to launch his own business.

And with soccer playing such an integral part of his life growing up, that naturally weighed into his idea.

"I have played a lot of soccer in my past," he said. "My favourite high school memories are playing for the (Langley Secondary) Saints and I credit high school athletics as a main contributor to my academic success."

Through his business, soccer balls can be purchased for $20, with the ball then donated to local schools, while the money goes to the Kwantlen Venture Fund.

The fund is for young entrepreneurs to borrow money to start their businesses.

"I just feel this is an awesome way to give back to a program that works," he said.
