A new 80,000 square foot multifaceted facility will centralize the Corix Group of Companies into one Langley location.
Construction of the North Langley facility will include a warehouse, shop and will employ more than 160 employees. The development, being done in partnership with Wesgroup Properties, is being built at the Gateway 200 Business Park.
The facility will allow Corix to consolidate their staff, operations and equipment from four offices, which will allow the company to provide better service to their customers, said Brian Vander Helm, the manager, facilities and fleet for Corix.
Corix specializes in products and utility solutions for sustainable infrastructure in the water, wastewater and energy sectors and provides field metering services for clients across North America.
The multifaceted facility will include the Corix Water Systems operations currently in Langley and Coquitlam, which build water and wastewater plants for use around the world. The Corix Water Products offices will also move from Cloverdale to offer customers a full selection of pipes, valves, fire hydrants, water meters and irrigation equipment. The third part of Corix moving in — the Pumps, Fabrication, HDPE and Coastal Operations groups — will come from Abbotsford. And the final group will be business support staff currently located in Surrey.
An additional innovation of the development will be the installation of a closed loop geo-exchange system that will be able to meet the heating and cooling needs of almost half of the new facility.
“As a leading proponent of geo-exchange systems, it made sense to explore the potential to utilize this cost-efficient, sustainable energy technology in our new facility,” added Vander Helm. “We did preliminary investigations on the site and when we found above-average potential, went ahead and incorporated the geo-exchange system into the overall design of the development. We look forward to showing clients the benefits of geo-exchange first hand, as well as how easy it can be to install.”
The shop and warehouse parts of the business are expected to move in in the fall, while the remainder of the operations and staff will move in early 2012.
