Langley City manager receives honour at Canadian Municipalities Awards of Excellence ceremony

Langley City director of development services Gerald Minchuk received the Green Champion Award at the Canadian Municipalities Awards of Excellence in Edmonton.

A City of Langley manager has received national recognition for his work in promoting sustainable development.

Gerald Minchuk,  the City’s director of development services and economic development, received the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Green Champion Award — Individual Category — at the Canadian Municipalities Awards of Excellence ceremony, held on Sunday (June 7)in Edmonton.

The FCM Green Champion Award recognizes a municipal staff or elected official who has demonstrated leadership, innovation, and commitment to sustainable development within their municipality or region.

“I am honored and delighted to be the recipient of the 2015 FCM Green Champion Award,” said Minchuk.

“It is truly a privilege to work for the City of Langley, and I am very fortunate to be able to work in a dynamic team-oriented workplace, surrounded by dedicated employees and a City Council who are committed to making a positive difference in our community.”

Presenting the award to Minchuk was Green Municipal Fund chairman, Ben Henderson.

“I applaud Mr. Minchuk’s commitment to promoting sustainable community development and leadership over his 21 years of service in the City of Langley,” said Henderson.

“My sincere congratulations to Gerald Minchuk on being selected for this prestigious award.”

“Langley City Council is extremely proud and delighted that a member of our team . . . was selected for this national individual award. It is quite an honor to receive national recognition,” said mayor Ted Schaffer.

“During his 21 years of service, Gerald Minchuk has demonstrated leadership and commitment to sustainable development by spearheading several innovative plans, projects and programs, and has positioned the City of Langley as a leader in land use planning and economic development.

“The City of Langley has received several prestigious national and provincial land use planning and economic development awards over the years as a result of Mr. Minchuk’s valued contributions.”
