Langley’s Beaton, Dar win Prospera Education Awards

Langley Fundamental student wins Ron Sweeney Rising Star Award

Hannah Beaton has been awarded the Ron Sweeney Rising Star Award from Prospera Credit Union’s Educational Awards Program.

The award is given to an exceptional high school student who is pursuing post-secondary education.

The Grade 12 Langley Fundamental student — who plans to study either sports psychology or nursing at Trinity Western University — created a program, Step in Someone Else’s Shoes, which gathers used shoes and redistributes them to inner city youth in need.

She also traveled to Nicaragua earlier this year to help build a school.

Beaton was also the recipient of the Township of Langley’s Pete Swensson Outstanding Community Youth Award last month.

Langley’s Moriyah Dar was also a winner of Prospera’s Quasar Award, which is given to a student already attending a post-secondary school.

Altogether, the program presented nine educational award winners from around the province.
