Time to drive for schools

Employees of Dams Ford Lincoln show up the vehicles they brought out for a recent Drive one 4UR School program. They will be at Dorothy Peacock Elementary on Sept. 17.

It’s an easy way to make $20 for local elementary schools.

This Saturday, Dams Ford Lincoln Sales Ltd. will have eight Ford vehicles on site at Dorothy Peacock Elementary School in Walnut Grove.

The vehicles will be there for test drives, and all that is asked in return is for the driver to fill out a short survey.

Every completed survey earns $20 from Ford Canada for that participating school, as part of Ford Canada’s Drive One 4UR School program.

“Most of our local schools are in deficit and a lot of the old schools have wooden structured playgrounds, which are now being condemned as unsafe,” explained Amber Jackson, the business development manager for Dams Ford.

“So a lot of PAC (Parent Advisory Council) members are looking to raise funds and this is probably one of the easiest ways to raise funds out there.”

Since the program begin in Langley in April, $7,660 has been raised for four local schools.

Four more are planned this fall: this Saturday at Dorothy Peacock Elementary, Oct. 1 at Gordon Greenwood Elementary, Oct. 15 at Langley Meadows Elementary, and Nov. 5 at Surrey’s Mary Jane Shannon Elementary.

The cross-Canada program began in 2007 and has resulted in 275,000 test drives at more than 1,500 events, generating more than $5 million in school donations.

There will be eight Ford vehicles, ranging from a Fiesta to a Super Duty truck, so that there are vehicles of all types on hand to test drive.

“We want to bring something that appeals for everyone so that they are more willing to spend 10 minutes out there on a Saturday to help raise funds,” Jackson said.

This Saturday’s test drive event (20292 91A Ave.) runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a maximum of 300 test drives.

The participating schools are those whose PAC approached Dams. Anyone wanting for information can contact Jackson at amber_jackson@dams.onmicrosoft.com.
