Tourism Langley gets $9,200 to grow online presence

From wineries, to the birthplace of B.C., to a Zoo and the horse capital, Langley brings in tourists

Tourism Langley will receive $9,200 for an online marketing campaign to help grow tourism in the region.

The funding comes from the government’s Community Tourism Opportunities (CTO) program. Tourism is one of the key economic sectors.  The strategy focuses on increasing the number of visitors by building on the global awareness generated by the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

“It’s no secret that tourism plays a vital role in driving B.C.’s economy and creates thousands of jobs here in Langley and across the province,” said Langley MLA Mary Polak.

“Tourism Langley’s programs ensure that visitors know about the natural beauty of our parks, our farm tours and activities that make Langley an attractive destination to visit,” she added.

“From visiting Fort Langley, the birthplace of British Columbia, to touring one of Langley’s award-winning wineries, our community has a diverse range of experiences to offer visitors,” Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman commented.

“This funding will help promote Langley as a tourist destination [getting] more people to visit one of our many attractions.”

The CTO program is administered by the province’s six regional destination marketing organizations which receive the funding from the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation.

Both marketing and development projects are eligible under the program which reimburses communities following successful completion of their approved projects. Some examples of initiatives supported include print and broadcast advertising, event promotion, interpretative maps, tourist-related signage, online activities, tourism brochures and research.
