A Township 7 Winery merlot has been honoured with a double gold medal at Wine Press Northwest’s annual Platinum Awards.

The winery’s 2009 award-winning merlot is described by Township 7 winemaker Bradley Cooper as “intriguing aromas of raspberry and cocoa dust notes with hints of black olive yield to flavours of vanilla, milk chocolate and black cherry. (It is) barrel aged for 22 months in French and American oak. Distinct structure and balance suggest cellaring benefits through 2020.”

It is handcrafted in small lots from Township 7’s estate vineyard and long-time family growers in the south Okanagan Valley, who work closely with the winemaker on all aspects of the viticulture to provide premium fruit, Cooper added.

The 11th annual awards awards of the finest wines in the Pacific Northwest had more than 550 entries.

The wine also won gold earlier this year and was named the Top Canadian Merlot by Wine Access Magazine.
