The winners of the Langley Advance Best of the Best readers choice awards gathered Thursday night to be feted for their devotion to their customers.
Dozens of businesses chosen as the best in their category from around Langley gathered at the annual reception at the Redwoods Golf Course in Walnut Grove.
“Each of you is a center of our community, and we’re excited to make you each the centre of attention in this community, ” said Lisa Farquharson, publisher of the Langley Advance.
She lauded the business owners for not only providing for their customers and working long hours, but contributing to charities and the community as a whole.
Some winners have made attending the Best of the Best reception a yearly event.
Heather Jenkins of 1 Fish 2 Fish in Langley City was back for her 19th consecutive win.
She won her first Best of the Best award – a tie, that year – after being open for just a few months.
Susan Simning was thrilled to be honoured for the first year, in a new non-profit category.
Her charity is the Bradley McPherson Memorial Scholarship, named after her son, who was murdered several years ago. The scholarship has been funded every year with a car show that raises money for two or more annual scholarships.
One scholarship goes to a student graduating high school with ADD or ADHD.
“It’s an achievement to graduating having ADD or ADHD,” Simning said.
Each winning company or individual received a plaque honouring them for their selection by the community.
