Willowbrook Sears general manager Signe Bell (centre) was joined by Jamie Chew (left) and Jacquie Gray for the ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand re-opening of the store on Aug. 16. Chew, with the merchandise presentation team, was honoured for her fifth year with the store, while Gray, from the women's wear department, has 35 years of service with Sears Canada.

Sears Willowbrook unveiled its new look on Friday morning.

The upgraded store offers a fresh look with new fixtures and a smoother flow through the various shops.

The renovations took about six weeks to complete.

In addition, there is also an expanded selection of brands and merchandise assortment in a variety of the departments "all in an easier to shop and well-organized store environment," said Signe Bell, the Sears Willowbrook general manager.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was done with all of the Sears staff on hand Friday morning, prior to the store's opening.

Bell also took the opportunity to celebrate Sears' partnership with local organizations and charities.

She presented a cheque for $500 to Herv Bezjak, the club co-ordinator for the Langley branch of the Boys and Girls Club of South Coast BC.

"We are so thankful for all you do for us, both locally and nationally," Bezjak said.

Also on hand was Bob Ahuja, an Abbotsford man who is part of the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride.

Last year, he rode coast-to-coast on the ride, from Vancouver to Halifax.

The annual ride is held every September and this year will be its sixth year.

The Willowbrook Sears will be the first stop for the national riders as they make their way across the country.

They will be at the Langley location on Thursday, Sept. 5, the first day of the 2013 ride.

Ahuja is riding once again this year, but this time will just be going as far east as Winnipeg.

"It is such a great event," he said, urging others to get involved either as riders or volunteers,

"Just to be a part of it, it is such a great cause."
