The team at Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) is looking to fill in shifts for a number of volunteer positions at the shelter this spring.

Dog walking, cat care, kennel and administration assistance are needed from Monday to Friday in both the morning and afternoon, as well as the odd Saturday.

Anyone interested in helping out during any of these shifts can email drew.harkness@lapsbc.ca.

Please note current COVID-19 Response Plan to ensure safety.

Executive Director Jayne Nelson said the sudden need for help stems from the giant shift that occurred at the onset of the pandemic more that one year ago.

“We closed our shelter to our beloved volunteers, when we closed to the public at the start of the pandemic last March. Their presence was deeply missed,” she explained. “As we have been able to develop protocols to keep our staff and volunteers safe while performing their duties, we have slowly re-opened our volunteer program.”

Prior to COVID 19, scheduled volunteer intakes occurred every other month. Due to the pandemic, LAPS paused all new volunteer intakes, but recently posted two new intake sessions scheduled for April 8 and April 10.

One session is already completely full, and there are only a few spots in the second session. If anyone missed out on this intake session, there will be another in May of this year – dates to be posted online.

“LAPS was founded by a group of dedicated volunteers and continues to be a volunteer driven organization,”Nelson noted. “We have always had the benefit of a large and active volunteer program, with volunteers involved in every aspect of our organization. Volunteers are truly the heart of our organization.”

LAPS is a registered non-profit charitable society established in 2003 by a group of volunteers to care for animals in need.

More information about the organization can be found at www.lapsbc.ca.

The Patti Dale Animal Shelter is located at 26220 56 Ave.

“We been so lucky over the years to have had great support from our community. We simply could not do what we do without the incredibly generous gifts of time we receive from our volunteers,” Nelson said. “We are so grateful for their support.”
