Would your youngster be interested in joining the new Aldergrove swim club?

Families with children ages five and up are invited to the Aldergrove Sea Monkeys annual general meeting on Monday, Nov. 19 to learn more about the summer swim club program at the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre (ACUCC).

You will meet the executive of the Aldergrove Sea Monkeys club, who will discuss the upcoming Winterfit program and the plans for the 2019 summer swim season.

The Wintefit training program will run from Jan. 9 to March 13 at the outdoor pool at the ACUCC. Under the B.C. Summer Swim Association (BCSSA) guidelines, swimmers will train two hours a week in the winter.

This will prepare the swimmers for the summer competition season at meets held at other BCSSA clubs in the Fraser Valley, such as the Langley Flippers club. The club also hopes to grow and plan competitive meets at the Aldergrove pool.

Sea Monkeys are not required to participate in competitions as this is up to individual choice. The primary goal of the club is to help swimmers learn and have fun with water sports, and to be prepared to compete if this is what they desire.

Sea Monkeys will wear orange-colored caps, the club’s official colour, and a logo design competition is also underway for the Sea Monkeys club. Entries for the logo competition close on Nov. 30.

The club is also hoping to expand its offerings to include masters level swimmers, as well as water polo and synchro swimming.

The public meeting is from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Mall Meeting Room across from the Pool and Ice Arena. When you arrive at the Community Centre, head towards the strip mall on the left and look for the signs.

Parents of swimmers, coaches and lifeguards are welcome to attend this meeting and meet the club coach, registrar and secretary.
