Monarch butterflies stretched out their orange and black spotted wings and flew for a pair of Langley causes Saturday.
The annual butterfly release at Krause Berry Farms & Estate Winery drew thousands in support of the Langley Hospice Society, as well as residents at Langley Lodge.
People bought boxes containing the butterflies, so they could have an opportunity to release the beautiful bugs into the partly sunny sky. Many of the monarchs didn’t fly all that far, at first, landing on nearby flowers to provide the perfect photo op for Krause visitors.
The fundraiser generated than $5,000.
The funds will be divided equally between the Langley Hospice Society, which provide palliative and bereavement care and support for the children, teens, adults and families they serve, and the Langley Care Foundation, which enriches the lives of the residents of Langley Lodge.

More than 325 monarch butterflies were released on Saturday afternoon, some in celebration, and others in honour or in memory of loved ones, explained Langley Hospice Society communications and funds development manager Shannon Todd Booth.
“The event brought together all ages and stages for a beautiful day in the garden,” Todd Booth said. “The butterflies remained long after the release and were enjoyed by all who attended the farm on Saturday.”
