Despite being rained out on Saturday, Canada Day celebrations at McLeod Athletic Park were a great success, said Travis Strain, president of the Langley Canada Day Society.
Once the weather dried up on Sunday, the grounds were packed with families enjoying the entertainment and midway games set up.
An estimated 40,000 people came out to the event over the two days, which is lower than the crowds of 50,000 that are normally seen.
“The weather is one of the biggest worries we have that we can’t control at an event like this,” Strain said.
“But the entertainment was top notch, the midway was full and I think people had a really good time.”
This is the only two-day Canada Day celebration in western Canada and is largely geared towards families, something that Strain says sets them apart from other nearby events.
“We have a lot of family-orineted things and that’s the feedback that we keep getting,” he said. “People are really thankful that we are a family-oriented event.”
