Car show season begins in Langley

Kicked off by 21st annual St. George’s Day car show held by the Langley Area Mostly British (LAMB) club

Car show season is about to get underway in Langley, with the first major event set to go on Sunday, April 20 in Fort Langley with the 21st annual St. George’s Day car show held by the Langley Area Mostly British (LAMB) club from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the front lawn of the front lawn of the Fort Langley community hall.

Among the owners of classic British vehicles, Aldergrove’s Ian and Doreen Davidson-Newby are expected to return with their their classic double-decker 1951 Leyland RTL bus.

Used in the film “To Sir, With Love,” the bus was converted to a fully self-contained tourist office on wheels and shipped to Canada, where it was driven from coast to coast, before eventually ending up south of the border.

“It was sitting covered with moss in a yard in Edmonds, Washington,” Ian recalled in a 2023 interview with the Langley Advance Times.

“And the lady that owned it had, fortunately, run out of money before she had a chance to take the top deck [off], gut it and turn it into a boutique. Luckily, she never been able to get it running. We were, and we drove it home, and it’s been at every Saint George’s day in Langley for about the last 15 years as a British icon.”

Doreen often attends dressed in a bus “conductoress” uniform used by ticket takers.

St. George is the patron saint of England and LAMB tries to hold its annual car show as close as possible to April 23, the day that pays tribute to him.

This year, Langley's many car shows include April 27 Country Car Show at Aldergrove Community Secondary School as well as the May 4 D.W. Poppy car show at the school, and the May 25 show at Brookswood Secondary.

The biggest Langley car show of the year, the annual Good Times Cruise-In, is set for Sept 6, in Aldergrove.
