Animals wind up in shelters for all kinds of reasons.
Chloe and Spanky, two sibling felines currently waiting for new adoptive homes at the CARES cat shelter, had to part with an owner who was going through serious health issues, and couldn’t care for them any longer.
They grown up together. The shelter is hoping that the spayed five-year-old sisters can stay that way and find a new home willing to accept two cats.
Theo is another newcomer, a two-and-a-half year old neutered male who was rescued as a stray, and may have been left behind by owners who moved. A little shy, he soon approaches new people to nuzzle and purr.
As part of its fundraising efforts to find homes for cats like Chloe, Spanky, and Theo, the CARES shelter is hosting its 12th annual walk-a-thon in September.
While it’s still a month away, walkers can start collecting pledges now.
The event takes place in Derby Reach on Sunday, Sept. 13 with registration starting at noon. The five-kilometre walk starts at 1 p.m. and is followed by a complimentary barbecue for participants.
This is CARES’ biggest fundraising event of the year, and requires a minimum of just $25 in pledges per participant.
