Langley City Mayor Ted Schaffer chats with Jennifer Chey (left) and Seth Reid, and his mom Jennifer, at the McDonald's Restaurant on Fraser Highway and Highway 10 on Wednesday (May 6). Schaffer was one of the thousands of volunteers who worked at McDonald's restaurants across the country for McHappy Day. One dollar from every Big Mac, Happy Meal and McCafe beverage is donated to Ronald McDonald House and $4.4 million was raised across Canada on that one day.

More than $50 million has now been raised at McDonald's Restaurants across Canada through the company's annual McHappy Day.

Last week's McHappy Day on May 6 raised $4.4 million as $1 dollar from the sale of every Big Mac, Happy Meal and McCafe beverage was donated by the fast food chain.

Twenty thousand families are served by Ronald McDonald Houses in Canada and other local children's charities.

Since McHappy Day was introduced in 1977, the national one-day fundraising event had raised more than $46 million for Ronald McDonald House and other local charities across Canada. Last year, more than $4.2 million was raised.

On McHappy Day, community leaders can be seen at McDonald's across the country, greeting and serving guests of the restaurants. Local politicians, entertainers, sports figures, media personalities, friends and family work side-by-side with McDonald's restaurant teams and franchisees to create a special fundraising initiative.
