Cold weather warning issued for Langley

Gateway of Hope invites those sleeping outside to 'come to safety of the shelter'

Langley's Gateway of Hope shelter will be providing 20 sleeping mats for adults during current cold weather conditions.

With cold weather expected, an extreme weather alert (EWA) for the Langleys has been issued for Wednesday, Jan. 8, by the Salvation Army Gateway of Hope shelter at 5787 Langley Bypass under the Assistance to Shelter Act.

“If you are sleeping outside please come to safety of the shelter,” the notice said.

Environment Canada was forecasting cloudy conditions and near-freezing temperatures overnight.

A statement warned of temperatures "that feel like, or are, 0 Degrees Celsius or below."

Until further notice, Gateway will be offering 20 mats for adults between 7 p.m. and 9:30 a.m.

Intake will be open until site is full.

The site is wheelchair accessible and pet friendly (on a leash or in a kennel while in the building).

Dinner, breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Laundry service and showers are available.
