Community Justice Initiatives Association is hosting its annual fundraising gala Friday, Nov. 7 at Newlands Golf and Country Club at 6 p.m.
This year’s event includes a buffet dinner, silent auction, and a story of tremendous courage, inspiration and transcendence.
Katy Hutchison will be speaking about how she waited five agonizing years after the murder of her husband Bob in Squamish for the person responsible to be arrested.
Not long after the young men responsible for Bob’s death had been sentenced to prison terms, Hutchison, a mother of twins, discovered Community Justice Initiatives (CJI). She and was able to organize a victim-offender mediation session, between the man who murdered her husband and her.
That is just one of the programs developed at CJI.
They put out the Little Black Book for youth — an easy resource guide for area teens.
CJI also is the founding group to bring restorative action program in Langley schools, involving student mentors.
Tickets to the gala are $30.
They can be purchased online at cjibc.org or call 604-534-5515.
