This season's concert series at Langley Community Music School (LCMS) kicks off this October with a violinist performing pieces merging influences as diverse as Bach and Daft Punk.
Ryan Davis, who performs under the moniker Radia, will present a performance at the Sunday afternoon Concerts Café Classico series on Oct. 20 at 2:30 p.m. combining classical training with folk, electronic, and hip-hop influences.
“This will be an extraordinary concert," said LCMS artistic director of concerts Elizabeth Bergmann. “Ryan is an exceptional violist who continues to forge new ground, breaking barriers with his rich sounds, experimental techniques and unique compositions.”
Davis was recently appointed to a position as assitant professor of viola at UBC.
Both a composer and a performer, Radia's Oct. 20 show will include original works that utilize looping technology.
“We are thrilled to kick off our 2024-25 concert season with Ryan Davis/Radia and invite everyone – of all ages and musical genres backgrounds – to join us for a great afternoon of music and conversation," said Bergmann.
The next Café Classico event will be on Nov. 3, and will feature cellist Albert Seo and pianist Dr. Scott Meek, who will share an afternoon of dance-inspired music including pieces from Chopin and Popper.
The Rose Gellert Hall concert series, which takes place on Saturday evenings, will start in November.
