Discussion on privatizing public assets

A discussion Sunday will look at aspects of turning public assets into private ones.

Is turning public assets — such as roads, hospitals, schools, public transit and drinking water — over to private corporations the way to go?

A discussion on this topic takes place on Sunday, Jan. 22 at the Walnut Grove Community Centre, 8889 Walnut Grove Drive (at 88 Avenue and Walnut Grove Drive).

In November, voters in Abbotsford said "no thanks" in a referendum in the municipal election. They turned their backs on an offer of more than $60 million from the federal government's Public Private Partnerships Canada fund.

People interested in the topic are welcome to attend. The event is sponsored by the NDP, and runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

Refreshments will be provided.
