Langley Environmental Partners Society is partnering with the Green Ideas Network and KPU Green Wednesdays, to host a screening of the new documentary, RiverBlue.
The film screening is being held as part of WaterWeeks, a series of events hosted by LEPS and the Township of Langley that started with the BC Rivers Day Festival on Sept 25 and runs through Oct 15, offering the opportunity for citizens to explore, engage and experience local environmental stewardship.
RiverBlue premiered with a sold-out screening at the Vancouver International Film Festival on Oct. 1, and the film is having its first community screening in Langley on Oct. 12 at the Township of Langley civic facility’s Fraser River Presentation Theatre (fourth floor).
Narrated by long-time water supporter Jason Priestley, RiverBlue follows internationally celebrated river conservationist, Mark Angelo, on an around the world journey by river that uncovers the dark side of the fashion industry.
Infiltrating one of the world’s most pollutive industries, and speaking with fashion designers and water protectors world-wide, RiverBlue reveals stunning yet, shocking images that will forever change the way we look at fashion, and the impact of the clothes we wear.
This groundbreaking documentary examines the destruction of our rivers, its effect on humanity, and the solutions that inspire hope for a sustainable future.
The film journeys through some of the world’s most pristine waterways to some of its most polluted, taking viewers for a behind the scenes look at a major, yet tragically under-reported, water pollution problem. Through harsh chemical manufacturing processes and the irresponsible disposal of toxic chemical waste, the manufacturing of OUR clothing is destroying rivers globally.
With stops in India, the United States, China, Australia, Africa, India, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, RiverBlue is an ambitious global undertaking that was officially designated as a “flag expedition” of the U.S.-based Explorers Club, in recognition of the film’s attempt to push new ground from an exploration, scientific and public awareness perspective.
Shot in 5K for ultra high definition, the images in RiverBlue invoke a visceral and provocative film experience, in order to propel a movement of positive change in the fashion industry.
Co-Executive Producer and Key Storyteller Mark Angelo and producer Roger Williams will be in attendance for a question and answer session during the Langley event.
The event starts at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
“Because we all buy clothes, ranging from denim to leather, this issue takes the river conservation message to a much broader audience in a way we can all relate to,” Angelo said. “It’s a vitally important and timely topic.”
