Langley’s Danny Halmo is planning to break the record for the world’s longest electric bike ride, starting this Canada Day weekend.

Halmo plans to ride about 150 kilometres a day for 100 days, with the first leg heading north through British Columbia to the Yukon.

“We want to bring the record back to Canada,” Halmo said.

In 2013 Halmo was named the Guinness World Record holder for the longest electric bike ride. Halmo rode 6,721 kilometres from Vancouver to Halifax, raising awareness about fossil fuel dependence.

Since then, he’s lost the record to an electric bike rider in India.

Halmo wants to beat the record of Sushik Reddy, who rode 7,423 kilometres last July cycling around India, using a solar powered bicycle.

Halmo is planning to be at Canada 150 celebrations at the Langley Events Centre before setting off on his ride.
