There’s more than one way to celebrate the environment during Earth Week.

The coming weekend offers opportunities for people in both Langley City and Township to show they care about Mother Earth.

Langley City is hosting a Pitch-In Day on Saturday, encouraging residents to clean up local parks and trails.

Similarly, the Township of Langley will have teams of volunteers out in force, picking up litter and polishing up their neighbourhoods.

Trees become the environmental focus in the Township at Sunday’s Community Arbour Day celebration, this year at Dale Ball Passive Park.

Pitch-In Day gets started at the City Park Picnic Gazebo, 4949 - 207th St., on Saturday, April 27.

City staff will be on site to provide clean-up supplies and equipment at the small picnic gazebo near the main parking lot off 207th St. from 9 to 11 a.m.

No pre-registration is required to get in there and lend a helping hand.

The Township will also be in clean-up mode on Saturday, with its eighth annual Clean Up Langley Day starting at 9 a.m. and running to 2 p.m.

Families, individuals, businesses, and community groups that have registered ahead (registrations were accepted to April 19) are being provided with necessary supplies by the Township.

Groups will be getting together at various locations throughout Langley Township to pick up litter and discarded waste from streets, neighhbourhood parks, and other public areas.

The following day, Sunday, April 28, a free family-friendly Community Arbour Day will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at Dale Ball Passive Park, 20708 - 36th Ave.

The 17th annual event is geared towards education as well as fun, with interactive displays, arts and crafts, rope-climbing demonstrations and activities, and an opportunity to do some community planting.

Gardeners will appreciate the opportunity to take home a bag of compost to help nourish the plants in their own yards.

The Township will also take some time to plant a few trees in remembrance of Langley citizens who have passed, leaving their community with lasting legacies through their volunteer and other community efforts.

No registration is required to take part in the free Community Arbour Day event.
