Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s (KPU) Langley campus will transform into a spectacular science centre for a one-day-only event May 7. The fourth-annual KPU Science Rendezvous, the largest public science festival in the Fraser Valley, will host an array of demonstrations, hands-on science experiments and interactive labs for learners and scientists of all ages.
“This is our fourth year hosting Science Rendezvous and we’re excited to welcome the public onto our campus for a celebration of science and learning in a fun, festival-style atmosphere, “ said Dr. Betty Worobec, dean of KPU’s Faculty of Science and Horticulture.
“Bring the whole family for a day of adventure and discovery."
Visitors can make slime in KPU’s science labs, see flames dance to music, create tornadoes, creep through KPU’s bug lab, take a polygraph test and experience the crowd-favourite Chemistry Magic Show. There will also be tours and tastings in KPU’s custom-built beer brewing lab.
New this year, guests can walk through a flower-lined labyrinth as part of Walk as One at 1: a global event that celebrates World Labyrinth Day (May 7). The classic seven-turn labyrinth was created by KPU urban ecosystems students and faculty.
Science World will also be onsite hosting a KEVA plank zone: a life-size Jenga display that features perfectly cut, identical construction blocks that stack with great stability to any height.
Genome BC, Bricks 4 Kids, Destination Imagination, Let’s Go Science, Urban Safari Rescue Society and many others will be at the event with hands-on activities and fun ways to celebrate science. Guests will also have the chance to win free Science World passes.
