A Heritage Strategy to effectively manage heritage resources is being developed, and the public is encouraged to have their say.
A public consultation to develop a Heritage Strategy began in April under the direction of the Township’s Heritage Advisory Committee and will continue until October. The goal of the Strategy is to provide an effective, sustainable and realistic plan that will enhance the long-term viability of the Township’s heritage resources.
A shared vision for the future of the Township’s heritage is being developed through answering questions about the community’s existing situation, defining key directions, and proposing a framework for putting a strategy into action.
The public is being provided the opportunity to express its views at various stages of the strategy’s development. During the spring, significant community input was received through a number of well-attended, themed stakeholder focus groups and workshops.
In late June, a first open house was held to garner feedback on what has been heard to date. A multi-phase survey is also paralleling the public consultation process to assist in determining the value residents place on heritage and what they feel is most important.
Residents are encouraged to view the material presented at the June 28 open house online at tol.ca/HeritageStrategySurvey, and fill in the accompanying survey/questionnaire by July 11.
A second open house will be held in the fall, to test and prioritize the final recommendations for the strategy.
