Kids successfully spread kindness in Aldergrove despite rain

Organizers say the second annual event had an 'overwhelming' response

There was a positive and "overwhelming" response to the second annual Kids 4 Kindness event held by the Aldergrove Business Association (ABA) on Saturday, March 8.

Despite the heavy rain and winds, two dozen kids were out and about in Aldergrove spreading kindness at their stations, ABA president Jodi Steeves said.

"The kids were so cute today. The energy was off the charts," she said.

Kids volunteered at Bellevue Park Senior Living serving popcorn and drinks to residents during a movie. One young volunteer was at the Greater Vancouver Zoo chopping vegetables for the animals and another acting as emcee on the train.

Children were also stationed at Veronica's Perogies, Hive Donuts, Home Hardware, Infinity Cards, and Gulf & Fraser Financial holding doors for customers and handing out free samples.

“Kindness is so important as it is a foundation for the future leaders of our community,” Steeves said.

“We wanted to build on the kindness banner program we did a few years back and thought this would be a fun event for kids in the community."

Sticky's Candy provided 30 goodie bags, and Panago Pizza delivered five large pizzas for the kids who volunteered. Gift cards were handed out to each participating kid for Firehouse Cafe, and additional gift cards were won from a draw to Home Hardware and pre-paid Visa cards to Proactive tax.

The 7-11 convenience store also gave out 50 free Slurpees.

Last year's event was the first, and had about 16 local kids volunteering around the community.
