• Seniors’ Gardening Club returns on May 13 for its third year at Langley Demonstration Garden demonstration garden. Roll up your sleeves, prepare to get dirty, and get moving through digging, planting, and gardening. Tips, cuttings, seeds, and ideas for successful gardening shared. All levels welcome. Bring gardening gloves if you have them. 50+ years FREE, every Monday, May 13 to June 17, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Sessions may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

• Salmon Saturdays – Langley Environmental Partners (LEPS) hosts community events and volunteer opportunities on the last Saturday of each month.

• Walk-A-Thon – at 1 p.m. all Dorothy Peack Elementary students will walk 5 km around the two large school fields to raise funds towards a new primary playground. Members of the community are welcome to join and/or support the students. To make a donation, you can support a student directly or through the Langley School District Foundation’s website “donate now” feature, specify Dorothy Peacock Elementary Walkathon.

• Community Garage Sale and Swap meet benefiting Douglas Park Community School programs, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the school, 5409 - 206th St. Spaces available for $10. • 7th Annual KPU Science Rendezvous - from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, 20901 Langley Bypass. Family friendly event with hands-on experiments, magic shows, interactive science labs, art and design activities, music and more. This year’s theme is Big Steam. Free for all ages with Eventbrite registration.

• 2nd annual Cars and Crafts show presented by Vanguard Secondary School, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 30 Vendors prepared to sell a variety of crafts and related items. Pulled pork, hamburgers, and hotdogs. Hourly raffle and a silent auction with donated goods collected by the grads. Also a kid zone with games and activities. Vanguard wants all types of vehicles to come out. If you love it, want to share it, it has wheels, and can be considered a vehicle, bring it. Vanguard Secondary school is at 244th and Fraser Hwy., the former Otter Elementary School.

• Artisan Market and Show n Shine May 11, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at North Ottter Elementary School. Featuring handmade items, flea market, local goods, custom cars, a petting zoo, concession, and kids’ activities.

• Valley Women’s Association Langley has a new venue. Lunch and networking from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Langley Golf & Banquet Centre, 21550 - 44th Ave. $25 for members, $28 for non-members, $30 late/drop in.

• Langley Field Naturalists visit the Hope Air Park and surrounding area. Meet 8:45 a.m. at the junction of the Hope Flood Road and Silver Skagit Road (take exit #168 from Highway 1 East). • World Freestyle Round-Up skateboarding competition is at the Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair, inside the Cloverdale Curling Rink. Admission included in rodeo entry.

May 18

• Spring Into Summer at Campbell Valley Regional Park, from 1 to 4 p.m. Celebrate the opening of the nature house for the summer season, with entertainment and family-friendly activities like face painting, owl pellet dissection, games and crafts. Park at 20285 - 8th Ave., and follow signs for a five-minute walk to the red barn. Free for all ages, drop-in event.

• CARES Adoptathon at Langley Pet Smart store on Langley Bypass. A large number of kittens is expected. Information table will have pamphlets with volunteering opportunities, donation ideas, and general tips about CatCare. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

May 20

• Nature Walk: The Wonderful World of Trees, at Campbell Valley Regional Park, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Shake hands with a spruce, sniff a fir needle, and admire the mossy gardens on maple trunks. Discover stories that the park’s trees have to tell, how to identify them, and how they help to support wildlife. With veteran naturalist Al Grass, formerly with BC Parks. Park at 20285 8th Ave. and follow signs for a 5-minute walk to the red barn. Free for all ages.

May 22

• Food Isn’t Garbage – Explore ideas for reducing food waste, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Repurpose parts of veggies typically destined for the green bin. Stretch food dollars further, with less waste. • Ride for Doug heads out for the 13th annual event, leaving South Langley Church, 20098 22nd Ave., at 1 p.m. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. The Ride For Doug raises money and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy, and is a show of support for Doug in his battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

June 23

• Stay Gold Custom Car Show will be held at H.D. Stafford Middle School, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Community shredding event: Watch unwanted paper materials – old tax returns, credit card statements, any personal information – safely shredded, by donation. • Penny Pincher thrift store The store, 20550 Fraser Hwy., accepts donation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday. The shop is operated by the Langley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and raises funds for hospital equipment.

• Fibromyalgia Well Spring Foundation - The thrift shoppe and offices are now in Aldergrove, 2978 272nd St., and raise money for the organization’s work. Info: 778-278-3697.

• Meals on Wheels - The non-profit society provides meals for those unable to cook for themselves whether due to age or infirmity. Available temporarily, such as post-surgery.
