More than 100 Langley air cadets have a new boss.
The 746 Lightning Hawk Squadron, based at the Langley Regional Airport, have a new leader.
Narissa Taylor took over the helm of the cadet troop, as Chief Warrant Officer 1st Class a few weeks ago.
“Taking command over 746 is going to be another challenge in my life,” said Taylor, who has been a member of the squadron for six years.
“I am now responsible for over 100 cadets and have to implement the drill, dress and deportment to each and every one of them. I look forward to collaborating with my senior team and teaching my cadets everything I learned over the years. It will be a tough but very rewarding position and I hope to inspire younger cadets to work hard and achieve their goals.”
She takes over command from Michael Montano.
“Throughout my cadet career, I have been afforded incredible opportunities and have had the privilege of seeing many parts of our country,” Montano said.
“ I have developed skills as a leader through instruction and mentorship, and learned many life lessons that will help propel me through my aviation career,” he said, reflecting on his time with the cadets.
“Most importantly I have made many lifelong friendships through the program,” Montano said. “I am very grateful for the seven years I have had as an air cadet, and look forward to continuing to work with the program as an adult.”
This squadron has been operating in this community for 50 years, with some of the former cadets going on to pilot Snowbirds, fly airliners, advise politicians, and run companies.
The Royal Canadian Air Cadets is a federally-sponsored national program for young Canadians ages 12 to 18.
Air cadets is a dynamic, structured program that offers Canadian youth a variety of interesting and challenging activities.
Activities include summer camps, gliding, team sports, music, marksmanship, first-aid training, drill team practice, and effective speaking – among others – all with a focus on aviation.
