Until July 31, budding artists can visit any Opus Art Supplies store to pick up an 8-inch by eight-inch canvas for a suggested minimum donation of $1.
The young artists can then create a work of art.
The exhibition saw more than 600 children participate last year alone. More than $3,300 in donations were raised in 2015 for the BC Children Hospital’s Child Life Department’s Creative Art Program – a donor-funded program that provides an artistic escape for young patients and their families dealing with ongoing health and medical issues and both short and long-term hospital stays.
Exploration and fun are encouraged and children are welcome to try out any artistic discipline (sketch, paint, collage, draw or even sculpt their masterpiece onto the canvas). Completed artwork must be submitted to their local Opus store by Sunday, July 31 where it will be displayed as part of a province-wide exhibition that runs Aug. 1 to 14. All exhibitors will be entered for a chance to have their artwork custom framed.
While visiting the in-store exhibition, members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite artwork.
The piece with the most votes at each Opus store will receive the People’s Choice Award and a $25 Opus Gift Card. Voters will be entered to win a $25 Opus Gift Card, too.
Church sale
Brookwood Baptist Church has tables available for its July 9 parking lot garage sale.
The plans call for 73 tables of goods for sale from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 20581 36th Ave.

Rwanda ride
Lots of riders of all ages will be on the Fort to Fort Trail Saturday for Rachel’s Ride for Rwanda, a family friendly bike ride for charity.
Rachel’s Ride raises funds for the Wellspring Foundation for Education’s work in Rwandan public schools and goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $100 for the cause and have their choice of 5.5 or 10.5 kilometre rides. Registration costs $35. The day includes a celebratory barbecue, and riders receive a T-shirt.

Quirky couple
Every marriage has its quirks, like the way Laura and Ryan Koch spell the name of their band, The Kwerks.
The Langley couple have a show at the Water Shed Arts Cafe on July 9 at 7:30 p.m.
It comes on the heels of their pop category nomination for a Fraser Valley Music Award. The winners will be announced later this month.
They came onto the local music scene last summer and garnered some attention last autumn when they landed a deal with Dominion Lending Centres and appeared in a national ad campaign.
“The DLC commercial was a great bonus as we were kicking off our music careers. It gave us some great exposure that we couldn’t have gotten any other way, even if we were singing about mortgages,” said Laura.
This spring, The Kwerks released their self-titled debut EP.
