A pair of 13-year-old students from Langley’s Circus Lab have come back from the Australian Circus Festival with two first place wins!

Caitlin Mckenzie’s and Gabrielle Payn’s category, “Teen Pre-Professional,” was rather large hence it was split into two shows, Teen Pre-Pro A and Teen Pre-Pro B.

Their results were as follows:

Teen Pre-Professional A:

Gabrielle Payn (gold, trapeze)

Teen Pre-Professional B:

Caitlin Mckenzie (gold, trapeze)

Gabrielle Payn (bronze, hand-balancing)

The two-show split allowed the teens not to directly compete against each other on trapeze.

As a result, their trapeze acts landed them both in first place.

Gabrielle Payn additionally scored a third place for her hand-balancing act.

They competed against a variety of other solo and group circus acts such as contortion, aerial silks, aerial hoop, acro-sport.

This was Caitlin and Gabrielle’s first experience performing under a big-top, and it will be a very memorable one, noted Svetlana Delous from the Circus Lab.

“Aside from getting to present their hard work, the girls enjoyed meeting a variety of circus artists, fellow circus students, and notable jury members,” Delous said.
