Langley City Terry Fox Run committee needs some volunteers

People can help out before the run or on the day.

The Terry Fox Run in Langley City is set for Sept. 17, but organizers aren’t waiting to get the help they need.

The local committee is putting out a request for members of the public to help.

“We’re always trying to get word out that the run is going to be held again in Douglas Park in Langley City,” said run coordinator Tom Barichello. ‘We’re looking for people to volunter on the course as well as people willing to help out in a more longterm way.”

The walk features one-, five- and 10-kilometre routes.

“Ideally we would like to have about 30 volunteers,” he said.

That would allow sufficient people to be stationed around the routes, as well as people handling administrative duties and other functions.

He said there’s opportunities for people to help just on race day and the event usually wraps up by lunchtime. It’s typically a three to four hour commitment.

Or people can help in the time leading up to the annual run with the organizational aspects.

The organization has some prerequisites for anyone wanting to volunteer.

“Just a positve attitude and be willing to brave whatever sort of weather we’re faced with,” Barichello said.

Anyone interested can contact Barichello at 604-534-0650 or tom_sharron_shaw.ca.
