A year ago Sources Langley Food Bank was hit with the theft of its truck and more.
On Friday, the agency is hosting a community event to commemorate the community’s generous response.
On December 10, 2015, someone stole $1,000 in gift cards from the food bank. The next day, the one-tonne truck used for picking up donations was stolen from its parking spot. The following day, the gas card was used to buy $1,300 in diesel. When the truck was found later that day, it was ruled damaged beyond repair.
The community responded by buying a brand new truck, lending additional vehicles and drivers, and donating tens of thousands of dollars. As a result, Sources is able to provide more than 600 Langley families with food for the holidays.
On Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sources Langley Food Bank (in the United Church, 5673 200 St.), the public, community partners and everyone who helped Sources last year are welcome to drop by, enjoy refreshments, music and holiday cheer. There is no cost to attend, though cash donations will be gratefully accepted.
Westminster Savings has donated $5,000 to Sources to assist those left homeless by the recent Paddington Station fire in Langley. The credit union is accepting donations at all of its branches (reference account #333975101), and will also be collecting donations at the event Friday.
