‘Helpless’ is the word that Langley husband and father Rod Quiring uses to explain how he feels in the face of cancer.
His brother died five years ago from esophageal cancer and this past fall, his wife was diagnosed with high-grade, aggressive breast cancer.
“This is my fight,” said Quiring of the B.C. Ride to Conquer Cancer taking place this weekend starting in Vancouver.
On June 14 and 15, Quiring will cycle 240 km in support of his wife, currently battling aggressive breast cancer.
An avid bike rider, Quiring will spend Father’s Day riding for cancer research that one day will hopefully lead to a cure. He will ride alongside other spouses of cancer sufferers.
His wife, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy, will meet him at the finish line, along with their two children. The day after the ride, his wife Emily goes in for her first surgery.
The 6th annual Ride to Conquer Cancer raises funds for life-saving research and enhancements to care for cancer patients through the BC Cancer Agency. The ride has raised $50 million to date.
