A recently crowned young Queen and her Royal Party will be chauffeured through downtown Fort Langley on holiday Monday.

The 2015 and ’16 May Queens and Royal Party are an integral part of the Village’s May Day parade and festivities. This year’s parade, the 94th annual, takes place the morning of May 23.

Following the parade, the May Queens and Royal Party will be piped into Fort Langley Community Park, where there will be May Pole Dancing followed by live entertainment until 4 p.m.

This year’s May Queen is Chloe Park, who attends Grade 5 at Lynn Fripps Elementary.

Maid of Honour Isabelle Dyck and Miss Canada Sarah Walmsley both go to Gordon Greenwood Elementary.

Fellow Maid of Honour Lexy Thomas attends Coghlan  Fundamental.

The 2015 May Queen is Langley Fine Arts School (LFAS) student Vanessa Nelson.

Queen Mother is Ev Leskiw.

This year’s Royal Party consists of:

Jayna Thompson and Rachel Purdom from Coghlin Fundamental; Sydney Hamilton, Payton Montana, Raewyn Rozak, and Elizabeth Downs from Fort Langley Elementary; Ella Chow and Suehyun Jeon from Gordon Greenwood Elementary; Rylie Copeland and Gwenyth O’Keefe from LFAS; and Faith Paraboo from Lynn Fripps Elementary.

Tea pays dividends

The 2016 May Queen was crowned on April 24 at Fort Langley Community Hall, during the annual May Queen Tea.

Through tickets purchased for the tea and a raffle, the tea raised $1,100, with proceeds helping to offset the costs of May Day.

All raffle items were donated by local businesses.
