On Thursday, June 1, the Langley Senior Resources Society (LSRS) will begin a week long open house, showcasing its programs and services for mature adults, from Tai Chi to table tennis, to vacation trips to Ireland and Hawaii. Some of the highlights of the LSRS Open House will include cake, coffee, and tours of the facilities at 20605 - 51B Avenue in Langley, as well as the much-anticipated Age of Love film and presentation, taking place on Friday, June 2 from 2 to 5 p.m.
“Age of Love is about breaking down barriers of social isolation,” says LSRS recreation director Sandy Lucas. “This event is to encourage new friendships, and not even necessarily the romantic kind. It’s important for mature adults to know that as they age, they don’t have to age alone.”
The Age of Love film admission is $5, and will include door prizes, swag bags, and refreshments.
Other events of note are Top 10 Tech Things Seniors Should Embrace, a free presentation on Friday, June 2, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; Tai Chi - Free Try It! on Tuesday, June 6, 11:35 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.; and Reflexology - Facials and Info Session on Wednesday, June 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Langley honours ‘Seniors of the Year’
On Thursday, June 1, Langley Senior Resources Society (LSRS) will honour 2017’s Langley Seniors of the Year in a special presentation to be held at the Langley Seniors Rec Centre.
The presentation will honour Sandra Reams and Albert Langla, two long-time senior residents, volunteers, and community supporters in Langley.
“It really is our honour to acknowledge Sandra and Albert,” says LSRS executive director Paul Goldberg. “They are both active members of the seniors community who do so much for their peers. We are very happy to recognize them during Seniors’ Week.”
The presentation will take place at the Langley Seniors Recreation Centre, 20605 - 51B Avenue, Langley, on June 1 at 10:30 a.m. All members of the community are welcome to attend. Seniors’ Week honours seniors and their many contributions to communities across British Columbia, and is celebrated in the first two weeks of June.
Free shuttle bus for Seniors Week events
Langley Seniors Community Action Table, in partnership with Langley Senior Resources Society and the Bus Co-op, will be offering two free opportunities for seniors to access bus transportation to events during Seniors Week.

The two events with bus service are the Age of Love movie presentation on Friday, June 2, 2-5 p.m. at Langley Senior Resources Society, 20605 - 51B Ave. and the 60+ Lifestyle Expo on Friday, June 9, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Coast Hotel and Convention Centre, 20393 Fraser Hwy., Langley City. The expo features special guest speakers naturopathic physician Erin Rurak and CKNW radio host Maureen McGrath, along with free seminars and a fashion show hosted by Langley Seniors Resource Society.
“This project is in conjunction with our efforts to establish an on-going seniors only shuttle service from the outlying areas of the Township to the Langley City, Hospital area, Langley Seniors Centre,” said Janice McTaggart.
“We hope to connect with seniors who would benefit from such a service and at the same time attract some funders for a long term project. We have heard from seniors over the years that lack of access to safe, affordable and social transportation is a barrier to their participation in their community.
“Currently the Downtown Langley Business Association is on board to help fund a pilot project, but other sources of funding are needed,” said McTaggart.
