Brogan’s Diner in Langley is known for hosting a free community dinner every month, and this year, the diner is hoping to support even more community members in need.

The diner is holding its first fundraising dinner this weekend called “Bringing the Christ to Christmas,” with a goal of raising $10,000 for the diner’s charity group called “Second Beginnings Christmas Givings” to help local families in need.

The money will go towards Christmas hampers, gifts for Christmas community dinner guests, and a vacation for a single mother and child in need.

Event organizer Suzanne St-Germain, said she was inspired to volunteer after seeing the sense of community that diner owners Shannon Brogan and Keith Smythe cultivate during the monthly community dinners.

“It was awesome, the whole atmosphere of community. It redefined what community really is. I saw people being looked after. It’s like a place where dignity is restored,” said St-Germain.

The dinner also includes live music, door and raffle prizes, and prizes for most tacky Christmas sweater and best karaoke Christmas song or dance.

The organizers are also collecting unwrapped toys for children.

The dinner is on Sunday, Dec. 9 at Brogan’s Diner at 20555 56th Ave., from 5 to 9 p.m.
