Aldergrove Festival Day’s Society is proud of its annual traditions.

The Christmas Light-Up Parade that runs through the downtown of Aldergrove this Saturday evening, has been part of the town’s festivities for over 20 years. Other annual events such as the ball tournament in June started some 33 years ago and the annual Aldergrove Fair in July has been part of the Aldergrove community for over 100 years.

Another annual tradition of Christmas that the society sponsors is the Walt Levy Light-up Aldergrove Contest. The late Walt Levy was president of the society when it was formed in 1984 and was responsible, along with many other notable Aldergrove volunteers, for starting many of these annual events. The light-up Aldergrove contest was named after him following his passing in 1999.

Residents are encouraged to decorate and ‘light up’ their homes and compete for the trophy award.

There are two categories, one for the whole home, and another for just a door or patio. Winners are judged with five criteria in mind: creativity, theme, use of space, colour and emotion (how the display makes you feel).

Registration is free and easy, by emailing details to ChristmasLights@EE4.net or calling Bob Long at 604-671-8948.

Judging takes place on Dec. 23 and the trophies are awarded on Boxing Day.

More information can be found at the website www.AldergroveFestivalDays.com and the society is always looking for new members.
