Metro Vancouver suggests a greener Christmas.

Starting a new hobby with a loved one, re-gifting a favourite novel or board game, or giving gifts that last are just a few of the ideas being offered as part of Metro Vancouver’s Create Memories, Not Garbage campaign.

Go to creatememoriesnotgarbage.ca for tips, printable gift cards and ideas that will generate less waste. For the sixth year, Metro Vancouver is people to think about gift giving in new ways.

“By giving experiences or high quality gifts, Metro Vancouver residents can help the region reach its waste reduction goals while still celebrating the spirit of the season,” said Malcolm Brodie, chair of Metro Vancouver’s Zero Waste Committee.

Canadians produce the most garbage per capita when compared with 16 other OECD nations, and the region is projected to grow by one million people by 2040. During the past six years of the Create Memories, Not Garbage campaign the amount of waste disposed of in the days following Dec. 25 has decreased an average of six per cent
