Miracle baby Greyson is turning one.
Last July, The Times reported about Langley’s littlest baby, born 15 weeks early and weighing in at one pound, 14 ounces to parents Erin Heard and Jamie O’Neill.
Tiny Greyson could fit in the palm of his father’s hand, if he wasn’t hooked up to so many tubes.
Now the long-lashed, adorable boy is starting to say his first words and is a bundle of joy and happiness, said his proud dad.
“His physical development is about that of a five-month-old but his mental development much exceeds that,” he said. He can’t crawl or sit up yet and is just trying foods like sweet potatoes and rice cereal.
He has upcoming physiotherapy, regular visits with a pediatrician and infant development team, but things are going well.
His lungs are under-developed, so a recent bout of a bronchial virus sent him to emergency, but he’s better now.
He will spend his birthday at the park with his sister, brother, parents, grandparents and other family members.
When Greyson first arrived in the world, he didn’t breathe for a full 15 minutes. Doctors prepared the couple for the worst, saying they didn’t think Greyson would live.
But miracles do happen — “Greyson is living proof,” said Jamie, a first-time dad.
He remained in the neonatal intensive care unit. He had surgery to close a valve to his heart and was on a breathing machine up until late August.
He was transferred to Surrey Memorial where he remained until he got to go home in October.
His parents remained by his side, staying some time at the Ronald McDonald House.
To that end, they have raised money for B.C. Children’s Hospital.
The new Ronald McDonald House opened earlier this week and mom Erin, an esthetician, is planning to go there with other estheticians and offer the moms staying there manicures, pedicures and massages, as a way to give back to the place that helped her so much.
