Residents of Langley will be bringing attention to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) by participating in the Scotiabank MS Walk on Sunday, April 14. In B.C., over 6,000 people will unite in an effort to raise over $1.2 million in pledges and bring awareness to the fact that 7,300 to 10,000 people in B.C. live with MS. In Canada, the number is between 55,000 and 65,000 .
Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender will be among those at the event, welcoming the supporters and officially starting off the walk at 10 a.m. Prior to its start, MS ambassador Vince McKay will rally the crowds, followed shortly by an interactive jazzercise team which will warm up the participants.
Beginning and ending in Douglas Park, teams of MS walkers will choose to walk a three km or six km route. At the finish area, walkers will enjoy snacks and refreshments, music, 50/50 draws and great company.
The Scotiabank MS Walk is unique in the world of spring fundraisers because there is always a wheelchair accessible route allowing greater opportunity for individuals who have MS to take part. This annual fundraiser occurs in over 160 communities across Canada. It is a family-oriented event that combines fundraising with fun and community spirit.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord. It is the most common neurological disease of young adults in Canada. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 40, and the unpredictable effects of MS last for the rest of their lives.
