North Otter family fun day to benefit playground

There will be lots to do at the school on Saturday, May 12.

There will be a family fun day at North Otter Elementary on Saturday, May 12.

All money raised will go towards building a new playground. The school’s PAC is hoping to replace part of the playground that was lost last year to a new drop-off zone.

PAC member Jackie Godin is one of the organizers who said there is a need for a proper playground for the more than 200 students who attend North Otter.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 5370 248 Street. There is free admission.

Among the events are a First World War plane replica, fire and police demonstrations including forensic lab, games for every kid, race car display, tons of entertainment, 25 vendors, raffle for prizes like barbecues and a swing set.

Live entertainment includes singer Carolyn Stewart and Studio One dancers on stage. There will also be food samples, tons of free goodies including a treat for every game kids play, which includes everything from laser tag to “booger wars,” balloon pops, fishing, and more put on by Games 2 U.

The playground is not just for students. It is for  all the other children who come to their older siblings’ baseball or soccer games and want to play on a playground.

“This playground needs to be safe for every kid,” Godin said.

The PAC would also like to see what it can do about the septic box near the playground, which can have a pretty powerful odour on warmer, breezy days.
