Baby Chloe is now into her second round of chemotherapy and losing her gorgeous curls.
Family friend Alecia Smithers held a pub night in north Surrey recently, where $7,000 was raised for the family to get through this difficult time.
“Friends and family have been so supportive in our financial struggles.
“It’s amazing,” said Chloe’s mom, Nykia Simon.
In February, nine-month-old Chloe, of Langley, had an eight-hour surgery to remove a golf ball sized tumor on her liver. Doctors managed to remove it and save 25 per cent of her liver.
After the surgery, there were complications, including infection, and Chloe needed plasma.
Chloe’s parents, Simon and Mike Dietrich, have been by their daughter’s side since all this began.
Dietrich, who works at Canada Bread in Langley, has been mainly off work, either by Chloe’s side or home with their three-year-old son Cassius. Recently, he has gone back to work three days a week.
Simon’s maternity leave runs out next month and she is expected back at work, but Chloe is still going through chemo and has to go into Vancouver once a week to get treatment.
So far, she is taking the chemo well, said Simon.
“We are hoping she takes to treatment as well as she did the first time.”
They said they are grateful for everyone’s support and will continue to stay positive. Chloe is still smiling through it all, said Simon.
