More than 200 hardy participants of the Run 4 Mercy fundraiser took off from the starting line at Aldergrove Lake Regional Park on rainy Saturday morning.

Sheets of rain cascaded on Aldergrove Regional Park on Saturday morning on what was an emotional day for more than 200 people who weathered the conditions, for a cause that means so much to them.

The annual Run 4 Mercy supports Mercy Canada, a Christian program focused on helping young women who struggle with eating disorders, self-harm, drug and alcohol addictions, physical and sexual abuse, depression, and unplanned pregnancies.

Organizer Andrea Slamaj said the five kilometre run/walk not only raises funds for Mercy Canada, it also raises awareness.

“We’re very excited that we’ve had such a great turnout this year,” Slamaj said. “We were worried the weather might impact that.”
