A personal fight against cancer takes courage. A community’s fight takes commitment. And the two are highlighted in the Relay for Life will take place on May 27 at McLeod Athletic Park.
Early bird registration, which gives participants a break on the fee, ends on Monday, Jan. 31.

“Year after year, Langley has shown what it’s made of, and to date our community has raised over $2,000,000 to help fight back against cancer,” said Shannon Todd Booth, the event co-ordinator.
“We are inviting past participants, new participants, cancer survivors and anyone else in the community to join us, and get involved with the Relay For Life,” added Diana Beglaw, International Relay For Life Hero of Hope and pancreatic cancer survivor.
She is also a Langley Relay organizing committee member, and team captain.
People may sign up as individuals, team captains, team members or as an event day volunteers, she said.
Each participant who registers by Jan. 31 will pay the reduced entrance fee of $10.
“Relay isn’t an athletic event,” said Alice Swenson and Laura Sumpter, who chair the team recruitment and development.
“It’s a fun, non-competitive and fulfilling experience for all ages, bringing together family, friends, coworkers and communities to fight back against cancer.”
Langley marks its seventh Relay For Life this year. In the event, teams of up to 15 people take turns walking or running around a track for 12 hours. For this year’s event, more than 35 teams and 160 participants have registered.
The event is a unique opportunity for communities to come together and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones and fight back against all cancers. Each year, more than 400 communities nationwide come together to support the largest cancer fundraiser in Canada. More than 50 communities in B.C. and the Yukon take part in the event which has raised more than $51 million in the fight against cancer.
