Sources chief executive officer David Young will receive a 2016 B.C. Community Achievement Award from the British Columbia Achievement Foundation.
The non-profit social agency serves White Rock, Surrey, Delta, Langley and Prince George. It has a food bank on 200th Street.
The award celebrates extraordinary British Columbians who go above and beyond in their dedication and service to others and who devote time and energy to making their communities better. Individuals are nominated and award recipients are selected by an advisory council of independent community leaders.
“It’s an honour to be included and recognized among such an incredible group of individuals in our province,” Young said. “Receiving this award inspires and encourages me to continue my work in building healthy, safe and vibrant communities. This is something that can only be achieved when we all work together. This award is also a testament to the good work that Sources is doing to support and develop our community.”
White Rock Mayor Wayne Baldwin wrote a letter of support for Young’s nomination. “I could not think of a more worthy recipient. Congratulations David,” he said.
Others who wrote letters of support for Young are Surrey-White Rock MLA Gordon Hogg, Surrey-Cloverdale MLA Stephanie Cadieux, Sources board member and City of Surrey Coun. Bruce Hayne, Thornley Creative Communications president Chris Thornley, visual artists Don and Cora Li-Leger and Schmunk Gatt Smith & Associates president Darren Schmunk.
Award recipients will be recognized in a formal presentation ceremony at Government House in Victoria on May 25.
