Horse power means different things to different people in Langley.
For the car collecting aficionados, they instantly think of the engine size in a truck or car.
For the clients and volunteers at Langley's own Valley Therapeutic Riding Association, it means putting a therapy horse under a person living with a physical and emotional disability and helping them to improve their physical, mental, and emotional well being with the help of a little horse power.
This weekend, both types of horse power are expected to fill the Langley Event Centre parking lot, as the B.C. Hot Rod Association hosts its second annual Hot Rod Sunday.
The event, as the name implies, is being held Sunday, July 17, with more than 350 collector cars of all different shapes, styles, ages, and authenticity expected to pack the parking lot.
And like last year's event, this free show will attract thousands of car buffs from throughout the Lower Mainland, and raise thousands of dollars for the Aldergrove-based charity.
Registration runs 8 to 10 a.m., with the show running 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To enter with a car, participants must pay $15 each. But to just wander around, admire the cars, and listen to a day of live music, admission is free, said organizers Joe Morris.
The day will also include a 50/50 draw, raffles, and food vendors.
Car clubs and events in Langley have a longstanding history of helping out VTEA. The Langley Good Times Cruise-In charity car show (set for Sept. 7 this year), has been giving a large chunk of its fundraising dollars each year to VTEA.
In 2014, the hot rod association raised $10,000, which was donated to VTEA.
“We also raise money for many more causes to help our communities,” Morris said in past, "VTEA being one of them."
