Langley’s Judi Vankevich, AKA “Judi the Manners Lady” is helping new Canadians from Syria adjust to the Canadian way of living.

This Saturday, she is scheduled to appear at a Thanksgiving lunch party for Syrian Refugees and families from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. hosted by the Arabic Church of B.C. at the Onnri Church at 19711 86 Ave.

Vankevich’s new “Proud to be Canadian” campaign and the “Kindness Keys” program have been accepted as an official Canada 150 Project in partnership with the City of Langley.

“I’m excited to assist our newest immigrants and refugees catch the vision for their new home in Canada, helping make their transition as easy as possible,” Vankevich said.

Bob Gabriel, manager of the settlement program at the Immigrant Services Society of B.C. in Langley said it is important to help immigrants with physical adjustments to Canada, “but we must help them with social adjustments, too … Judi teaches universal principles that parents from every cultural background (can) embrace — character, kindness and manners.”

Refugees and sponsor families interested in the Saturday event are asked to RSVP Reda Hanna at
