A young raccoon taken in by Critter Care is among the thousands of wild animals that have found refuge at the South Langley facility. On Sunday, Critter Care will hold its annual fundraising walk through Campbell Valley Park.

Critter Care will host its eighth annual Walk on the Wild Side through Campbell Valley Park this weekend.

It all happens on Sunday, Oct. 2 with pledge sheet check in at 10:30 a.m., and walkers departing at 11:30 a.m.

People are invited to bring their dogs — on leash — and take them for a two- or four-kilometre scenic walk through the park, while helping to raise funds for the South Langley wildlife rescue organization.

The walk will be followed by a barbecue and prizes will be awarded for top individual and group fundraisers.

There will also be visits from some special mascots.

Critter Care relies entirely on donations to help rescue and rehabilitate more than 1,200 injured and orphaned wildlife each year.

This year, they have taken in injured and orphaned deer, beavers, opossums, numerous bear cubs from all over B.C., coyotes and more.

Wildlife rehabilitation is very expensive.  For instance, a black bear cub can eat its way through $5,000 in food during 18 months of care.

The walk begins at the south entrance to the park.

It is $15 to register and $5 for children 12 years and older.

Pledge sheets are always encouraged.

To register online go to crittercarewildlife.org/walkathon/ or contact Cathy at 778-255-5806 or email crittercarewalk@gmail.com.
